Pure, Soothing, Powerful Tea since 2004

Fall is the perfect time for warm, creamy drinks that taste like a hug from your mom! This drink was adapted from an Indian cookbook, and is both comforting and health-giving. In addition to being a sweet, mildly spicy treat, this drink packs four delicious nutritional powerhouses! Turmeric, green tea, ginger and honey ALL have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities, so this is the perfect drink to soothe and help heal a sore throat or the beginnings of a cold. The dried fig absorbs moisture and flavors from the drink as you sip, and makes a lovely little treat at the end of your drink. (Figs are also great for constipation…just sayin’…) If you’re sensitive to caffeine choose decaf Sencha for just 3 mg of caffeine. Substitute soy, nut, or coconut milk if you’re congested (or sensitive to dairy) since dairy can increase mucus production and make cold symptoms worse. This is a favorite of kids, and a great way to boost nutrition if your kids are fighting off the fall ‘crud.’ Hope you enjoy it!

Per each serving:

Ingredients

1 cup milk (can substitute nut milk or soymilk)

¼ tsp turmeric

½ tsp ground Sencha, Matcha or Decaf Sencha

1 tsp honey

½ tsp grated fresh ginger root

1 dried fig

Directions

  1. Put the fig into the bottom of a medium to large mug.
  2. Heat the milk gently in a saucepan, and stir in the turmeric, ground green tea, ginger, and honey.
  3. When it is steaming hot (but not boiling), pour the milk mixture over the fig.
  4. Sip slowly, then enjoy the warm, soft fig.
