Oregon Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members from Joseph Charter School decided to make ground green tea the focus of their yearly project. To attend the State Convention, FCCLA students are required to have a project that benefits their school or community. They bring that project to state and compete for a bronze, silver, or gold medal in different categories. These students competed in Illustrated Talk: informing the public of a topic/concern through a speech and visual aid(s). For their project, Malichi Roberts and Kana Oliver created a ten slide presentation highlighting the benefits of ground green tea. They partnered with SEI MEE TEA to learn more about green tea’s nutritional values and other uses for the product. SEI MEE TEA donated all their supplies to sample green tea to students and judges at State Convention. Malichi and Kana presented to Joseph Charter 7th and 8th graders and a mix of high school sophomores-seniors. Through their project, they were able to generate excitement for ground green tea in their school while informing students of its many health benefits. Even the 7th graders showed enthusiasm and many requested recipes using ground green tea after the presentation. After competing on March 24th, they came home from State with gold!
