The weather is turning blustery in our neighborhood, and it seems like everyone has a sniffle. Time to make a mason jar full of Tonic to spoon out to my crew when they need something to warm and soothe a sore throat or a cold. Mix this up ahead of time and keep it in the fridge to use as needed – adding in the Matcha at the last moment ensures fresh flavor and color. This tonic can be made with Manuka honey as well, which is said to have even stronger anti-inflammatory and healing properties. (Keep in mind that small children 1 year old and younger should not consume any type of honey.) Either way, this feel-good tonic can be served warmed or cold, in one-ounce ‘shots’ or mixed into water and sipped.
¾ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger ¼ cup honey 1 cup warm water ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper ¼ tsp Matcha (per serving) Stir together all the ingredients except the Matcha, and store in a lidded jar in the fridge. To serve, pour out 1-2 ounces of liquid into cup, and heat as desired. Whisk in ¼ tsp Matcha and drink.
Lemon Ginger Tonic with Matcha
- ¾ cup Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 tsp Ginger, grated
- ¼ cup Honey
- 1 cup Water, warm
- ½ tsp Cayenne Pepper
- ¼ tsp Matcha Powder (¼ tsp per serving)
