Learn How to Choose & How to Use Green Tea Powder

Sencha powder is, like matcha, extremely versatile in cooking. However, you may be wondering what spices would go well with Sencha powder. This recipe uses Sencha Powder Spice Blend, which is also very versatile.

Sencha powder is naturally yellowish green–compared to matcha–so it does not work as well to add vibrant green color to the food. However, the color intensity is not an indication of its potency. The yellow-green color is proof of the fact that the tea leaf was exposed to abundant sunlight. And abundant sunlight generates abundant Catechin antioxidants in the tea leaf! Adding Sencha powder to your cooking is a great way to add the powerful green tea phytochemicals to your diet.

I was gifted a bunch of local, gorgeous ripe tomatoes, so I decided to make “pico de gallo.” All of us can eat more vegetables and Pico de Gallo is one of my favorites. They look sparkly to me and it’s pleasing to my eye and it is full of fresh aroma and taste.

This recipe is no ordinary Pico de Gallo, though. This recipe is so good that even “tomato haters” have second bites and more. My daughter is one of them. She doesn’t like a tomato. Even tomato sauce would be something she would avoid. But when she had a bite of this Pico de Gallo this morning, she scooped a big heaping on top of her scrambled eggs.

Once I saw it, I told her with a smile, “I’m so glad you are eating tomatoes!” My daughter: “Yeah, mom, this is yummy.” That’s when I revealed my secret ingredient–“Of course! I used Sencha powder.” And she said, “Yeah, I knew you would do that.”

I’ve been using my “Sencha powder spice blend” to prepare meat and vegetables, including kale chips, grilled vegetables, etc. This seasoning is a winner because you’d be consuming less salt as it adds more depth in flavor without as much salt.
