This matcha is derived from a prized cultivar of green tea known as Sae-midori (meaning “vivid green ” in Japanese). Under the care of tea Master Mr. Sakamoto, this premium leaf can reach its fullest extent; carefully tended in rich soils he tenderly crafts it from his own blend of natural, organic ingredients. Compared to other matcha powders of the same price range – this one is made from the Gyokuro leaves – it offers less tannins for a less bitter, more satisfying cup. The excellent quality and memorable flavors present great value without compromise.
TASTE
The flavor is rich and savory, with creamy, sweet umami notes filling the pallet; in addition to light, grassy notes mid-sip, and a smooth, almost satiny mouthfeel. Preparing it iced brings out more delicious, seagrass notes, and natural sweetness.
AROMA
The aroma is fresh like a breeze, or the first snow of winter; and carries a very satisfying, lightly-sweet aroma – like fruit skins and moss – carrying subtle hints of the umami notes to come. Once it’s prepared – either traditionally with a Chawan and Chasen (Japanese drinking bowl and bamboo whisk), or a hand-held frother, the aroma is light, sweet, and almost fruity; with wisps of salty sea air and dune grass. It froths up easily without leaving chalky clumps, and the smooth quality the results is consistent.
COLOR
The color of the matcha powder is a deep, emerald green. It both looks and feels like a fine suede between the fingers.
NUTRITIONAL BENEFIT
No matter which brewing method Is used, it provides a thoroughly satisfying cup. The naturally occurring relaxant L-theanine synergizes with the caffeine to provide a calm, sustainable and focused energy for hours; without any sense of jitteriness, tummy troubles, or crashing that other caffeinated beverages produce. Plus, it’s jam packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
PAIRING
As a latte, the creamy, nutty flavors develop more fully; reminiscent of roasted chestnuts, or warm Brazil nuts. Preparing this matcha with coconut milk brings a macadamia nut flavor forward. The addition of the sweetener of your choice turns this green goodness into a light, slightly-savory treat. There are many options one can choose from to make this tea their own; all of them delicious.
