Contact & FAQ Information
Are your green tea powder products organic?
SEI MEE TEA LLC is certified organic as a company. Our products and ingredients are all certified organic, or grown organically and tested for no pesticide residue.
Where are your green teas grown?
SEI MEE TEA offers tea and brown rice from various regions in Japan. For more details, please click here.
How much caffeine is in Edible Green Sencha and Matcha Green Tea powder?
Our teas’ caffeine content per 8oz serving is:
Edible Green®, Regular: 10 mg
Edible Green®, Decaf: less than 3 mg
MATCHA (Modern Warrior): 35 mg
MATCHA (CHA KA, SAE, Uji Matcha): 60-70mg
For comparison, a regular cup of coffee has 95-240 mg of caffeine per serving.
Green Tea, Oolong Tea, and Black Tea are produced from the leaves of Camellia Sinensis, which contains caffeine naturally. Caffeine amount in Green Tea, including matcha, Oolong Tea, and Black Tea are determined by the growing environment and post-harvest treatment. The fermentation (oxidation) and finishing process make the unique flavor and nutrition in each type of tea. Oxidation decreases Catechins and EGCG in tea leaves. Therefore, the more oxidated Oolong Tea and Black Tea contain fewer Catechins and EGCG than Green Tea, which is not oxidated.
What are the health benefits of green tea?
Green tea health benefits primarily come from the following three nutrients:
The most beneficial antioxidant: 25 to 100 times more potent than Vitamin C & E.
The most powerful among Catechin subclasses; responsible for green tea’s long list of health benefits.
A natural relaxant almost exclusively found in green tea leaves. Stimulates the production of alpha waves in the brain, associated with relaxation and mental alertness. L-Theanine is an amino acid found almost exclusively in green tea. Click here to learn more about L-Theanine.
Green Tea is one of the best natural sources of antioxidants we have. The therapeutic benefits are tops, especially for cancer of any kind, and green tea is extremely cost-effective compared to alternatives. Used by cultures all over the world, Green Tea is one of nature’s most beneficial and readily available substances. And, consuming it in powder form, as Ground Green Tea, provides many times more antioxidants than Green Tea brewed from bags or loose leaves because most of the antioxidants are not water-soluble and do not come out into the brewed water–so we don’t get them unless we eat the leaves.”
–Mark A. Gignac, N.D., FABNO Seattle Integrative Cancer Center, Tukwila, WA
Green tea’s health benefits may be useful for many health concerns including helping prevent cancer, strengthening the immune system, reducing cholesterol, promoting oral health, enhancing brain health & mood, weight loss, preventing bone loss, balancing hormones, regulating blood pressure, and helping prevent Type II Diabetes. Please consult your doctor before starting to drink green tea if you have any specific ailments and/or taking medications.
How much green tea should I drink? How much is too much?
EGCG, one of the subclasses of Catechin antioxidants, is the primary cause of the long list of green tea health benefits. Our green tea powder offers more EGCG than regular tea bag green tea, and one cup a day is a great addition to your healthy lifestyle.
You can drink more than one cup if you would like. In order to replenish with fresh green tea antioxidants throughout the day, drink one cup every a couple of hours up to 7 cups a day.
How much is too much?
Caffeine: Regular green tea contains caffeine naturally. According to Mayo Clinic, total Caffeine intake should be limited to 500mg per day. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that adolescents get no more than 100 mg of caffeine a day. Younger children shouldn’t drink caffeinated beverages on a regular basis.
- 2 – 5 cups of coffee (95 – 240 mg/serving),
- 8 – 35 cups of black tea (14 – 61 mg/serving),
- Over 50 cups of Edible Green® regular (9 mg/serving), or
- about 14 cups of Sei Mee Tea’s Matcha (35 mg/serving when 1g is used to make a serving).
EGCG: Being a very potent antioxidant, EGCG could be toxic if you consume extremely high doses as in EGCG extract. Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University reports scientific studies using 6000 mg of EGCG a day caused severe side effects. They said these side effects were likely related to Caffeine in the green tea extract.
If you drink real green tea in its natural form rather than extracts, you are unlikely to reach a toxic level of EGCG. That is why we recommend getting EGCG from real whole food, pure green tea powder. However, people’s tolerance varies, and one should approach higher levels of consumption cautiously.
Can kids drink green tea?
Yes, it is safe for kids to drink green tea!
Green tea can offer wonderful health benefits to kids. Since green tea naturally has caffeine, we advise monitoring the amount of caffeine your child is consuming. Green tea also contains L-theanine which is a natural relaxant that counteracts the undesirable effects of caffeine such as jitters. Unlike other caffeinated products that are popular with children, green tea may offer an energizing feeling without agitation, over excited-ness, and an eventual crash.

Do you test your green teas for lead and radiation?
SEI MEE (Say Me) means “Pure Beauty” in Japanese. SEI MEE TEA is certified organic and all of our products and ingredients are either certified organic or grown organically and tested for no pesticide residue. However, being “organic” is not enough for us for our “Pure Beauty” teas. They need to be clean and delicious.
Our green teas are tested and free from pesticides, radiation, and heavy metals. Be reassured when you choose SEI MEE TEA. Drink only the cleanest, healthiest tea for your health.
What is your decaffeination process?
Our process is called the Natural Water Method, which uses water to remove most of the caffeine. EGCG antioxidants remain in green tea leaves when they are decaffeinated using the patented natural water method. With the patented water method, Edible Green® Decaffeinated sencha green tea powder contains 14.03% of Catechins.
Edible Green® Decaf has more Catechins than Matcha!
|Product||EGCG amount per serving||Ratio|
|*Matcha||10.95% / 54.75mg||1|
|Edible Green® Decaffeinated||14.03% / 70.15mg||1.28|
|*Sencha green tea powder (Edible Green® regular)||15.55% / 77.75mg||1.42|
According to the study done by Tsushida, when raw green tea leaves and steamed green tea leaves are soaked in hot water of 176 degrees Fahrenheit, 70% of caffeine after 1 minute and 80% after 3 minutes were eluted from both types of tea leaves. However, little amount of caffeine was eluted when the water temperature was 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The results show decaffeination efficiency largely depends on the water temperature.
The elution amount of EGCG is much less compared to Caffeine. When green tea leaves were steeped in hot water of 176 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 minutes and 80% of the caffeine was removed, only 4.1% of EGCG was eluted and 95.9% of EGCG remained in tea leaves.
The results show Caffeine can be removed selectively from both raw and steamed green tea leaves.
(“Journal of Agriculture and Chemistry Society” 59, 1985)
How beneficial is decaffeinated green tea powder?
It’s true with other decaf green teas because their decaffeination process removes water-soluble antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals along with the caffeine. So, “decaffeinated green tea leaves” don’t have much water-soluble nutrition left–that means, if you brew decaffeinated green tea leaves, you just get colored water with little antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
Edible Green® Decaf sencha green tea powder is the most efficient green tea when you are sensitive to caffeine. 95% of Catechins are left in Edible Green Decaf sencha green tea powder. That means you still get 95% of Catechins from this amazing sencha green tea powder. Since Sencha offers more Catechins than Matcha does, Edible Green Decaf green tea powder offers more Catchins than Matcha does. No more compromise on green tea benefits to enjoy decaf green tea!
Edible Green® Decaf green tea powder is the only decaf green tea that delivers green tea benefits to you.
- Naturally decaffeinated with the patented Water Process method.
- Decaf green tea powder is almost as healthy as regular green tea powder with 95% of Catechins.
- Edible Green® Decaf green tea powder is the only one “decaf green tea powder” available in the US market. Same mild and smooth flavor as regular Edible Green® tea powder.
How do I make a cup of tea with Sencha green tea powder?
Just mix powder (1/4 to 1/2 tsp.) in 6 – 8 oz water, hot or cold. For the best warm cup, use 175 degrees F water. For cold tea, use chilled water. No boiling, brewing, or chilling.
Sencha green tea powder or Matcha is also versatile in terms of cooking. Not to mention it makes a nutritious and delicious addition to smoothies, it can be added to soup, oatmeal, cereal, dip, etc.
When mixed with salt and/or other spices, it works as a great seasoning spice or a rub.
We offer green tea recipes. Please go to our “blog” page to view recipes.
How do I store my Matcha and green tea properly?
To keep your green tea as fresh as possible, avoid air, sunlight, moisture, and heat. All of our products come in resealable bags. Please gently squeeze the air out and reseal after each use. If you prefer, you may also store tea in a non-clear container with a tight-sealing lid.
If you like to buy in bulk, we recommend following these steps to ensure freshness.
The powder gets exposed to the air every time you open the container. We recommend you take a portion of powder, which you will use up within a few weeks, out of the bulk bag, and put it in a small dark air-tight container or a smaller dark food storage bag (NOT a clear plastic bag, because it doesn’t block sunlight).
When you close the bulk bag, gently squeeze the air out of the bag so the bag contains as little air as possible. You may secure it with scotch tape or rubber bands if you like. If you live in a hot area with average temperatures of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit, we recommend storing your bulk quantity in the fridge. Then, take it out an hour before use so that it returns to room temperature and discourages condensation (moisture).

Which tea is best for me?
We offer many types of tea for all of your needs! If you’re seeking popular “matcha,” we offer MATCHA “Modern Warriors”, Cha Ka, SAE, and Uji Matcha. Matcha is high in caffeine and L-theanine for a calm sustainable energy. It offers more antioxidants than teabag green tea, but not as much as sencha powder.
Sencha Powder is for people who would like to take less caffeine than Matcha and would like to get a high level of antioxidants. We offer Edible Green® Sencha Powder Regular or Edible Green® Sencha Powder Decaf if you are very sensitive to caffeine.
For darker roasts that have a coffee-like flavor, our Unforgettable™ Brown Rice Drink or Hojicha will be great options for you.

Other tips: Iced Tea, Cow's Milk, and Lemon with Tea
Iced Green Tea is our favorite refreshing drink for summer. With our iced green teas, you get great flavor and quench thirst without any pesticide residue. Click here to learn how to easily make Iced Tea at home!
Cow’s Milk & Green Tea
“Milk proteins, containing caseins and whey proteins, were considered as ideal carriers for delivering catechins. Sodium caseinate adsorbed at the oil water interface, can load high ratios of EGCG. Casein micelles can be used as protective carriers for EGCG in foods. It was demonstrated that nanoencapsulation of EGCG in casein micelles did not diminish antiproliferative activity of the catechins on colon cancer cells, compared with free form EGCG. Accordingly, casein micelle is considered to be an ideal platform for catechin delivery while the binding of caseins with EGCG would not affect the bioaccessibility of EGCG.”
The above quotation was taken from this scientific report: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6225109/ (September 2018).
Lemon or Sugar & Green Tea
Vitamin C enhances the antioxidant activity of green tea, so lemon is a good addition. If you are diabetic, do not add sugar to green tea. Green tea antioxidants control blood sugar levels if sugar is not added to green tea. Controlling the amount of sugar intake could mean controlling your health. The bottom line is, yes, you can add lemon or sugar to your tea. However, pay attention to the quantity so you are not consuming too much sugar.
