If so, it could be “Adrenal Fatigue.” 

Low energy and tiredness are common reasons many people feel poor in their health. But sometimes, physical exams and blood tests may show no explanation. In this case, your Adrenals may be the issue. 

The adrenals are two small glands that sit on top of the kidneys and produce hormones, including cortisol. When we experience stress, it releases short bursts of cortisol into the bloodstream. Prolonged, constant exposure to stressful experiences could drain the adrenals. It can result in the glands’ inability to produce enough cortisol at all.

Adrenal depletion causes

•depression and anxiety,

•moodiness and irritability,

How to heal adrenals and regain energy naturally

According to a medical article published by Harvard Medical School, alternative and complementary clinicians often have more success in terms of treatment of adrenal fatigue, because they look at patients holistically. Some medical professionals might prescribe cortisol analogs. But the study warns, “Cortisol replacement can be dangerous even in small doses.”

To address Adrenal Fatigue, you need to approach it from a bigger picture, not just adding extra cortisol to your blood stream.

1. Nourish adrenals with nutrient-packed, antioxidant-rich foods. And improve not just content of your diet, but eating habits. Do you skip meals often? Do you eat fast? Do you eat while multi-tasking? Your adrenals will thank you with a big smile if you eat regulary, chew well, and enjoy your meal time.

2. Avoid “high Glycemic Index (GI) foods,” whose sugars are absorbed quickly and cause blood sugar spikes. Low GI foods may help you avoid the lag in energy. Foods with a low glycemic index include whole grains, high-fiber vegetables, nuts, and healthy oils such as olive oil. Good to remember Green Tea polyphenols help to regulate blood sugar level. 

3. Control lifespeed: You can do this in two ways–first, “lighten your load.” What is your true “must-do“? Consider asking for help if it doesn’t have to be you who does the task. Secondly, you may not feel like you can afford the time, but do the following anyway–you may be surprised by the result: sit down and eat regular meals, get good sleep, and make time to relieve stress. Exercise is a great way to de-stress and helps to increase energy. 

4. Use a “cue”: Add a new healing habit as a cue to slow down and give yourself recognition you are adopting a great new habit. Making a cup of tea is a great way–simple and easy.
